Using the Site Manager to Save Your Connections

If you've used other FTP clients, you probably found out about their Site Manager after you've entered the details for a connection a few dozen times. Typically, the users of other FTP clients think to themselves,

…Do I really have to keep entering the connection details every time I connect?

Clearly, the developers at Ipswitch encountered this as well. They made their connection manager integrate with the Connection Wizard.

• The Connection Wizard is the easiest way to get yourself connected to your FTP server.
• The Connection Wizard creates entries into WS_FTP's Site Manager.

Connecting with Entries in the Site Manager

The Site Manager stores all of your connections in one place. Once you've added your FTP server to the Site Manager, just how do you use it?

Easy:

1. Click the ▼ button next to the Connect button on the toolbar.

2. Select your connection.

Editing Entries in the Site Manager

The Site Manager is more than just the Connection Wizard and the ▼ button though. With just a few quick edits in the Site Manager, you can take advantage of some real power in WS_FTP.

• To open the Site Manager: Click the Connect button.
• To edit a site in the Site Manager:
  1. Select the site in the Site Manager.
  2. Click the Edit button.

The Host Info Page

The Host Info page simply shows the information that you entered into the Connection Wizard. If you need to make a change (such as a mis-ttyped passowrd), this is the place to do it.

The Startup Page

The Startup Page is where you can set automated startup local and remote folders.

Folders

Remote site folder box

• This will navigate you to a sub-folder when you connect.
• Remember: FTP server folders begin with a slash /, and folder names are also separated by a slash:
  /folder/sub-folder/

Local Folder

• This will navigate you to a folder on your computer when you connect.
• Local folders can begin with a drive letter C:\. Folder names are separated by backslashes \:.
  C:\Documents and Settings\your_name\My Documents\
• If you are on a local area network, local folders can also use UNC paths.
• UNC paths begin with two backslashes \\ and list a server name and shared folder. Subsequent folders are still separated with backslashes:
  \\server\drawings\job_10-150\archtectural\

The Advanced Page

On the Advanced Page, you can set the connection protocol for connecting to your ExaVault account.

Set the server type drop-down box to read one of the ExaVault supported connection protocols:

• SFTP/SSH (Professional version)
• FTP/SSL (AUTH SSL)
• Standard FTP

Secure FTP is the ExaVault suggested method of file transfer.
