Fetch

Main Fetch features are:

• Support for FTP, SFTP, FTP with TLS/SSL (FTPS);
• Drag-and-drop of files and folders between ExaVault account and your Mac, or between two ExaVault accounts;
• Droplet shortcuts for convenient drag-and-drop uploads to commonly used servers;
• A file list modeled on the familiar Mac OS X Finder;
• Editing of remote files using any application, with changes automatically saved back to the server;
• Synchronizing folders using the Mirror command, which only uploads or downloads the files that have changed since the last transfer;
• Upload and copy files between servers using Copy and Paste.

Downloading and Installing Fetch

You can download Fetch from its’ official website.

After you download the installation file, start the setup and follow the instructions there.

Connecting and Transferring Files with Fetch

In order to start using Fetch to transfer files from your computer to ExaVault account or edit them you should implement the following steps:

1. Open Fetch from your applications folder.

2. A new window will appear, you need to fill in the fields with your ExaVault account information.

• Address: fast-banana.exavault.com
• Username: fast-banana
• Connect using: how you're going to connect to the server (usually FTP or SFTP)
• Password: don't tell it anyone

3. Click Okay.

If you used Fetch previously, you can connect by clicking the clock icon beside the hostname and choose your account, click Okay and enter your password.

Using files and folders with Fetch

Fetch displays directories as folders, and in Fetch and the Fetch Help they are referred to as folders or “remote folders”. Fetch displays remote folders similar to the way the Mac OS Finder displays folders in the list view.

1. Once you are connected, the name of the current folder is shown in the title bar of the transfer window.

2. You can change to a different folder in several ways: Double-clicking the name of a folder in the file list (or selecting it and pressing Command-O or Command-Down arrow) will go to that folder.

3. The Path button in the transfer window toolbar displays a pop-up menu that lets you go to any folder that contains the current folder.

4. The Back button in the transfer window toolbar takes you back to the folder you were previously viewing.

5. Finally, the Recent button in the transfer window toolbar list folders you have recently visited on this server. You may quickly return to any of them by choosing one from the menu.

Download files with Fetch

To download a file or folder:

1. Select the file and click the Get button in the 51 toolbars. You can also get a file by double-clicking its icon or name.

2. To get multiple files or folders, click them while holding down the Command or Shift key, and then click the Get button in the toolbar.

3. You can also get files and folders by dragging them from the Fetch file list to the Finder.

4. To get a file correctly, Fetch has to communicate with the server in text mode or binary mode. Normally Fetch uses Automatic download mode, in which it decides the mode to use for a file based on its filename extension.

Upload files with Fetch

To upload a single file from your Macintosh to ExaVault server:

1. Click the Put button in the transfer window toolbar, or choose Put from the Remote menu.

2. Select a file. You can also enter a new name to give to the uploaded file, or choose a different format for uploading the file.

3. The automatic format is the recommended setting, as it will usually pick the correct format for the file.
